Songs About Board Games

Did you know that a number of famous artists have written songs about their favorite board games? OK, did you know that a number of famous artists have written songs that I have adapted into songs about board games? Here are just a few:

TICKET TO RIDE (parody of Ticket to Ride, with apologies to The Beatles)

I think I’m going to get mad if that route you play, yeah
Your trains are making me sad cause they block my way
We’re playing Ticket to Ride, we’re playing Ticket to Ri-i-ide
We’re playing Ticket to Ride, and it’s not fair

Six black cards in my hand that I want to play
But you just claimed El Paso all the way to LA
We’re playing Ticket to Ride, we’re playing Ticket to Ri-i-ide
We’re playing Ticket to Ride, and it’s not fair

I don’t know why you treat me so bad, I never did wrong, never did wrong by you
I don’t know why you’re looking so glad, never did wrong, never did wrong, it’s true

I think I’m going to get mad if that route you play, yeah
Your trains are making me sad cause they block my way
We’re playing Ticket to Ride, we’re playing Ticket to Ri-i-ide
We’re playing Ticket to Ride, and it’s not fair
My opponent don’t care, my opponent don’t care…

WE BUILT THIS CITY (parody of We Built This City, with apologies to Jefferson Starship, and thanks to BGG user MD1616 for the idea)

We built this city, we built this city on wheat and ore
We built this city, we built this city on wheat and ore

Say you got some lumber that you don’t want to keep
Say, I’ll take your lumber and I’ll give you some sheep
Needin’ some bricks there so you can build a road?
I need some wheat to get my city to code

You just rolled a robber, and lost this cards of yours
Didn’t you remember to build you city on wheat and ore?

We built this city, we built this city on wheat and ore
We built this city, we built this city on wheat and ore

CAYLUS (parody of Layla, with apologies to Derek and the Dominos)

What’ll we play tonight at game night
And we’ve got five people sitting around?
You want a race, or some workers to place
You know the perfect game I’ve found

Caylus, don’t put your worker there
Caylus, I’ll place it there I swear
Caylus, darlin’ don’t you care about my score?

I wish you wouldn’t move that provost
He’s going to make my turn much less
Like I fool, I went and trusted you
Maybe we should have played some chess

Caylus, don’t put your worker there
Caylus, I’ll place it there I swear
Caylus, darlin’ don’t you care about my score?

I think it’s time to build the castle
I need all the Favors I can get
I need cash, or points all in a flash
I can still win this game yet

Caylus, don’t put your worker there
Caylus, I’ll place it there I swear
Caylus, darlin’ don’t you care about my score?

THE GAME OF RISING SUN (parody of The House of the Rising Sun, with apologies to The Animals)

There is a game from Eric Lang, they call it Rising Sun
It’s been the envy of many a poor boy, and man, I know I’m one

The game has lots of minis, and has some great reviews
But it costs one hundred dollars, and that gives me the blues

The box looks pretty heavy, and shipping would be a lot
So I’ll have to be satisfied with all the games I’ve got

But I’ve got a bad case of FOMO, and it looks like lots of fun
Even though I know my total plays of the game would probably be one

There is a game from Eric Lang, they call it Rising Sun
It’s been the envy of many a poor boy, and man, I know I’m one

ROLLIN’ AND WRITIN’ (parody of Proud Mary, with apologies to Creedence Clearwater Revival)

Hey, you want to play a board game but you don’t have a lot of time or space
Let me show you something small and compact that you can play any time or place
Big games are still great but sometimes you need something small
Rollin’, rollin’, rollin’ and a-writin’ (rollin’ and a writin’)

First you take some dice and roll them, or you might be asked to flip a card
Then you write down something on a piece of paper, anyone one can do it, it isn’t hard
Big games are still great but sometimes you need something small
Rollin’, rollin’, rollin’ and a-writin’ (rollin’ and a writin’)

You could play That’s Pretty Clever, Qwixx, Dizzle, Qwinto, or Welcome To
Whatever you like, if you look around, I’m sure that there’s a roll and write for you
Big games are still great but sometimes you need something small
Rollin’, rollin’, rollin’ and a-writin’ (rollin’ and a writin’)

Let me know if you enjoyed these. Or if you didn’t. Whatever. I had fun writing them. Thanks for reading!
