Have I really done 90 of these? Wow. Well, here it is – the monthly recap of Kickstarter projects that look interesting to me. As always, times are Mountain Daylight, and funding levels are accurate as of the day before posting.
Black It Out (Sebastien Clarke) is a roll-and-write game that was released last year. I have played it, and I like it – there are multiple boards with different polyominoes to be placed, and your goal is to fill the board. It’s tough. Now an express version, as well as themed boards, are being Kickstarted. If you like roll-and-writes, check it out. (Ends 6/26 @ 3:09 AM. Currently funded. £4. Estimated to arrive August 2021)
Dice Trucking (Derik Duley) is apparently a roll-and-write version of Galaxy Trucker, even though there’s nothing on the campaign that says as much. But you’re building a ship, then flying it to your destination and trying to deliver your cargo. It looks interesting, I’d like to try it out, Galaxy Trucker fan that I am. (Ends 7/1 @ 12:49 AM. Currently funded. $3. Estimated to arrive July 2021)
Book of Villainy (Fertessa Allyse, Gold Seal Games) is a game about a not-very-good villain who is writing a book about the job. The game plays on a rondel that you’re traveling around, recruiting henchmen, trying not to attract the attention of the heroes, committing dastardly deeds, and adding chapters to your book. This is a theme I love – I always enjoy playing the villain in a game. And this game looks pretty cool, so I want to check it out. (Ends 7/1 @ 12:00 PM. Currently funded. $30. Estimated to arrive July 2022)
6: Siege (Carlos GQ, Mythic Games) is a board game based on the video game Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six: Siege. It’s an asymmetric game where players are either attacking or defending in order to accomplish their mission. You can move, shoot, or use gadgets as you play. The game comes with minis, and is one of the most funded games currently on Kickstarter. It doesn’t really seem like a game I’m interested in, but it looks nice and is obviously very popular right now, so here it is for your consideration. (Ends 7/2 @ 3:00 PM. Currently funded. $69. Estimated to arrive June 2022)
Deliverance (Andrew Lowen, Lowen Games) is a game about angels who have finally found the stronghold of their enemies. It’s a cooperative game about that final apocalyptic battle between good and evil. The game has a Christian theme to it, and looks pretty epic. I haven’t gotten a chance to study it too deeply, but it’s a fairly underutilized theme, and I look forward to seeing how it all works. (Ends 7/8 @ 8:59 AM. Currently funded. $59. Estimated to arrive July 2022)
Valor & Villainy: Lludwik’s Labyrinth (James Van Niekerk, Skybound Games) is a sequel to last year’s Minions of Mordak. It’s a co-op adventure where you’re going into a labyrinth and trying to stop Lludwik from orchestrating a demonic invasion. It seems far less serious than, say, Deliverance. Very fun art, and the game claims to be hilarious, so we’ll see about that. (Ends 7/9 @ 6:00 PM. Currently funded. $60. Estimated to arrive September 2022)
Forests of Pangaia (Thomas Franken, Pangaia Games) is a forest growing game. You’re growing the map, planting seeds, watching them grow, moving your forest spirit around, and trying to collect lots of life energy. For a game that is about a forest, this game sure does seem to have a lot of wood in it. Still, it is quite pretty, and it’s got a good theme, so it’s one I’m interested in checking out. (Ends 7/16 @ 2:00 AM. Currently funded. €49. Estimated to arrive March 2022)
And now for some projects I didn’t have time to look into closer:
Thera is a role selection and resource management game (with a rondel) set in Greece after a volcano wiped out Thera. (Ends 6/28 @ 9:00 PM. Currently funded. $45. Estimated to arrive July 2022)
Tea, Scones and Arsenic is a party game where heirs are eating biscuits and trying not to die. (Ends 6/29 @ 3:00 PM. Currently funded. €28. Estimated to arrive February 2022)
Peak Oil Profiteer is a game where you’re trying to exploit an oil rich, but war ravaged, country before it falls. (Ends 7/6 @ 8:00 AM. Currently funded. €30. Estimated to arrive March 2022)
Graphic Novel Adventures is an ongoing series from Van Ryder Games (one of which, Mystery, I recently reviewed). This campaign is for their latest titles. (Ends 7/9 @ 3:00 PM. Currently funded. $15 a book, $65 all 4. Estimated to arrive May 2022)
Scarface 1920 is a gangster game set in the Prohibition era. (Ends 7/15 @ 9:59 AM. Currently funded. €99. Estimated to arrive June 2022)
And that’s it for today. Thanks for reading!
